RAF WW2 PHOTO ALBUM FEATURES AIR MINISTRY EXPERIMENTAL STATION A.M.E.S 259 ( RADAR STATION IN EGYPT ) INCLUDES PHOTOS OF RAF BLENHEIM & WELLINGTON BOMBERS .
Here I offer a new DVD produced from an original photo album. Disc contains 145 high resolution scans ( 1200dpi ) of each photo . In addition I have also scanned the pages which contain captions alongside many of the photos .
The album belonged to RAF Flight Lieutenant Roy Fenton . It covers a period 1941-1943 and service with setting up Air Ministry Experimental stations ( A.M.E.S ) ...which I believe are RAF Radar and / or wireless stations . There are a few photos of AMES 254 at El-Arish Egypt , however most of the photos in the album relate to service while at AMES 259 contructed at Bir-el-Abd Egypt ....I suspect Fenton my have been in overall charge of AMES 259 . Many photos illustriate the rapid growth of the base over an 18 month period.
There are many photos showing the initial construction, tall transmission masts going, further development of the station at AMES 259 and day to day life for the officers & men based there .
Of particular interest are photos of an RAF plane at Bir-el-Abd .. 3 nice photos of a Blenheim bomber , plus another of a RAF Mechanic working on the Blenheims engines ...
There is also a photo of a Proctor plane which is nose down in the sand , after crash landing and a photo of a biplane .
There are are good number of photos of RAF pick up trucks and heavier military/ RAF trucks , plus Radar / Radio truck in use . Other photos include RAF officers interacting with the local leaders ..including Sheikh Mohammed Abu Hassan and Soliman Moussa.
This album offers an interesting insight into this man's service .
